5 Herbs for Endometriosis

5 Herbs for Endometriosis

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Discover what endometriosis is and enjoy my other endo-related posts!

As you may already know, I’m a HUGE fan of herbal medicine. Herbs can reduce symptoms as well as balance the body from the inside out- getting to the root cause of your hormonal imbalance. There are literally thousands of herbs out there and many are helpful for women’s health, but how do you choose from the myriad of choice?

Firstly, I will always recommend seeing a qualified natural health care practitioner before starting any kind of herb or supplement regime. That being said, I’m outlining here my top 5 herbs for endometriosis. I have used these with success in many of my private clients, including Lindsay!

Before starting the 30 Day Jumpstart, I felt that my hormones and my Endometriosis were taking control of my life and my body. I was constantly tired, moody, and had an upset stomach after every meal. Before this, I really felt that nothing would work for me. 3 surgeries, several different medications, pain killers, and I never experienced any relief in my symptoms compared to what I am feeling now. After making changes that you recommended over the last 30 days I have noticed a major increase in energy, my moods are much more stable, and I no longer have stomach aches/digestive issues. I can’t thank you enough for the huge impact you have made! I finally feel in control!  – Lindsay K.

Endo Tea | The Hormone Diva

Pau D’arco

Pau D'Arco | The Hormone Diva

Pau D’arco is the inner bark of a tree from Central and South America. It has a very mild flavour, and so lends itself well to tea. Pau D’arco is fantastic for endometriosis for a few reasons.

  1. Immune Modulator: Immune system issues often coincide with endometriosis, and this herb helps our body to create the proper types and amounts of immune-boosting white blood cells. This also reduces inflammation.
  2. Hormone Balancer: Through all the other actions, this herb could be helpful in balancing sex hormones.
  3. Liver Detoxifier: A stagnant liver is correlated with hormonal imbalances, since your body isn’t able to detoxify hormones as it should (especially estrogen). This leads to poor digestion, hormonal craziness and much more. Detoxifying the liver is an important step in balancing endometriosis.
  4. Anti-Microbial: Any kind of virus or bacterial overgrowth (including parasites and candida) will negatively impact the immune system, meaning more shitty endo symptoms for you. Pau D’arco will kill off these bad guys, leaving your body clean and healthy.

Oregon Grape Root

Oregon Grape Root | The Hormone Diva

Oregon grape root is a berberine herb. What?! Well- this is a chemical constituent in several herbs (like goldenseal and barberry) that is extremely helpful for both balancing insulin and modulating the immune system. This is another great liver detox herb as well- making it excellent for reducing excess estrogens found in endometriosis. This herb will also assist in great digestion, something that is often lacking in endometriosis.

Endo Tea | The Hormone Diva

Vitex

Vitex aka Chastetree Berry | The Hormone Diva

One of my absolute favourite hormone-balancing herbs (for almost any age and condition) is Vitex. Vitex and I are having a steamy, sexy love affair. Sometimes known as Chastetree Berry, this herb is helpful for reducing pain and inflammation in the uterus. Vitex also stimulates your pituitary gland, a gland in the brain that regulates all hormone function in the body. By way of this, vitex could increase progesterone, reducing the estrogen dominance often found in endo.

Dandelion Root

Dandelion Root | The Hormone Diva

A super helpful herb for SO MANY things, dandelion root is another indispensable herb for endometriosis. Why? It helps to detoxify your liver (dandelion leaf has an affinity for your kidneys). Dandelion also provides essential nutrients for hormone balance such as vitamins A + C, iron, calcium, and potassium, plus some pretty sweet trace minerals. This herb is even better when combined with other liver-detox herbs and hormone balancers like the ones we’re gabbing about in this article.

Dong Quai

Dong Quai aka Angelica | The Hormone Diva

Lastly, but NOT least- dong quai aka angelica aka female ginseng (though it’s not a ginseng) is a fantastic female tonic herb. This herb is nourishing to the blood and could mildly balance mood. Do not use dong quai while you are menstruating, as it could create a heavier cycle- something most endo divas don’t need. It could help with regulating the cycle, reducing pain and balancing overall sex hormones.

      Hey Jenny,

You can absolutely mix all the herbs listed in this article together as a tea. Many health food stores carry dried herbs, or you can find them online.

I can also mix up the tea for you, and mail it out. If you are interested in this option, please feel free to contact me at info@thehormonediva.com and we can get the tea ready for you!

      Hope this helps,

      Robyn

All I can say is thank you for sharing. I’ll keep in contact and I’m believing that this too (endometriosis) shall pass!!!! Endovan is not in my budget right now. I don’t want to get back on the “birth control shot” I want to go holistic.

Wow this is awesome information, I’ve had endometriosis for 17 years now, I’ve had only 1 surgery where they took out 1 grapefruit size chocolate cyst form my right ovary and a baseball size one from my left ovary. During that laparoscopy procedure my doctor had to make a c-section in order to get the cysts out. During the years they always tend to come back, but I have been able to control them by taking natural medicine from Heritage products( cats claw and other herbs)I have learned how to manage so much pain and learned how to live with it through out all these years. I do get some real bad flair ups once or twice a month and those r the ones that really get to me and can’t get out of bed. I am now taking double the dose of natural meds and it is now that I have been flair up free for 2 months now. But I am really interested in these 5 herbs because of my endo, my hormones r always going bunkers and because of that I get depression, anxiety and a lot of anger issues and my libido is also very low. I also have a very low iron level and I’m always very tired. I am really interested in getting the mixture of all 5 herbs.
Sorry for the long story, but I really want something that will give me more energy , balance my hormones and be pain free for once in my life!
    Thank u!

      Hey Nidia!

Thank you for sharing your story- it’s amazing that you’ve seen results with natural methods! I know the other women with endo who read this will love to hear that.

If you have trouble getting these herbs, hit me up! I’ve got the combo here ready to be shipped as tea.

    Hey,
I’ve tried these herbs for a few weeks now and although I feel they are working I have a rash appear across my stomach which is slowly spreading to me legs and back, I feel pretty unwell to be honest. I don’t think it’s the herbs but wanted to ask is there a chance I could be having an allergic reaction? I really hope not as it’s stopped my migraines and my hot water bottle has been redundant for over a week. Thank you
    Meg

      Hey Meg,

As with anything, there is a chance of allergic reaction. Many of these herbs also have detoxifying properties, and if your body is dumping toxins but they’re not getting out of your body (through bowels, urine, etc), symptoms such as rashes can result. Also the amount of herb you’re using may matter. Perhaps stop taking them for 3-5 days and see what happens, or reduce dosage. Hope this helps!

the woman can increase and promote the efficiency of her detox system by taking Magnesium for better bowl movement and sitting in a sauna ..wiping the body with towels and throwing them outside the sauna room. This brings great relief to detox symptoms. Drink a lot more water as well. A tea spoon of good quality. sea salt in a big glass of water in the morning on an empty stomache will nuetralize toxins during detoxification

Hello Robyn. Can one of the herbs work alone for endo or must it be combination of the 5. I can only get one here in my country.

      Hey Temitope!

I can’t say for sure if just one will work, but you can certainly try. Alternatively, I ship my Endo Tea anywhere so you could acquire it through that.

      Have a great day 🙂

Hi .. would you be able to ship the EndoTea to Malaysia? How much would it cost? My endo is pretty bad I feel.. it affects my bowel movements giving me bad colicky abdominal pain and bloatedness and altered bowel movements. I am already using castor oil packs but would love to do more holistically.. I’m still unmarried hence not so keen for surgery as I’m worried of more adhesions, and hopefully when I do settle down would like to start a family.

      Hey Anis,

I certainly would ship it! I would recommend choosing a shipping option that includes a tracking number so you can monitor that it will arrive safely.

When you put the tea in your cart, you’ll be able to calculate shipping options to see the pricing.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

And great for doing castor oil packs….I am constantly recommending these to my private clients. They are super helpful!

      Hello Imy,

I am happy to ship to Nigeria. You can find the Endo Tea on my “Tea Shop” page.

However, I would recommend choosing a shipping option WITH tracking, as I have sent to areas near Nigeria before and the tea didn’t arrive, but there was no tracking or insurance.

Otherwise you can try to find a website that sells medicinal herbs closer to where you are to order them for yourself.

      Hey Lovely,

The full instructions for brewing and using the tea are on the card you received in your package. Typically I recommend 2-4 cups daily. 🙂

      Hey Rebecca,

I can’t say for sure what dong quai would do for you. I would definitely hit up your natural healthcare practitioner to find the right herbs to increase your flow safely.
